Course Description:
History 2 is a survey of music history based on four historical style periods – the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical eras. Emphasis is on the development of musical genres and forms. Detailed accounts of the lives of representative composers are not required for this exam.
Students will study and be examined on selected forms and works from the above eras. To minimize the cost of studying music history this course will use online resources extensively. This includes:
Required Textbooks: Explorations 2, Music History from Middle Ages to Classical - $44.95. (not included in course tuition)
Due to the constant change of textbooks, which invariably costs students over $500.00 in materials to study Music History for the Royal Conservatory of Music and/or Conservatory of Canada Examination systems. This history course makes use of online resources and class handouts to minimize the overall cost of studying music history. Internet access is required for this course. Please note that students will be required to download and view the required scores and handouts (posted on the studio website).
