Piano lessons are enjoyable, especially if steady progress is maintained. This can only be accomplished by sustained effort from the child assisted by parental encouragement. The support of parents is essential in aiding their child’s progress.
As you enroll your child for piano lessons there are three questions to consider:
If you are a trained musician, you can help your child’s musical education in all phases. You can also help if you are not a trained musician. You can help by:
Regular practise is the key element for progress. The responsibility for this practise is shared by parents, teacher, and most of all, the student. Good work habits, comprehension, self-motviation and the love of music, are the values that will flourish.
Parents are invited and encouraged to sit in their child’s lessons, whether on a periodic or regular basis.

- What do you expect from the teacher?
- What are you willing to do yourself to attain these goals?

- Arranging a suitable time and atmosphere for practise.
- Read the lesson book for special notes that need tending to during the week, or for the next lesson.
- Supervising practise periods of younger children and encouraging them to do all aspects of the assignment as outlined in the lesson notebook.
- Attend recitals.
- Comment in an encouraging manner on the child’s performance of repertoire during practise periods and in recitals.
