Intermediate Harmony - Online Course
Course Description:
The Intermediate Harmony course will carry on from the Basic Harmony. The course is designed for students who will be taking the RCM Intermediate Harmony exam.
This course makes use of online resources, powerpoint, and handouts to minimize the overall cost. Internet access is required for this course. Please note that students may be required to download and print off scores and handouts (posted on the studio website). This course will use the course website for online quizzes, tests and reviews, as well as handouts to supplement the required textbook. This course will consist of weekly assignments and reviews.
The online course is designed for students to work on their pace. However, students are expected to complete the course within a one year time span - extra tuition is required if not completed within a one year period.
General Information
Completion of Course: Students are required to complete the course within a 12 month period. If the course is not completed within a 12 month period, students will be required to pay half the course tuition to have access to the online course material until the next examination period.
Examination Dates: Examination Sessions occur the second Saturday of August, December, and May
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Online Courses are web-based. The course website will provide the student with tutorial videos, online resources, weekly assignments, and online reviews and quizzes. All online courses require that a student has a basic understanding of how to maneuver around the internet, email, and how to email attachments.
When taking an online course a student should be strong at self-directed studies. Students should have a strong background in Theory Rudiments before taking the online Harmony course. A mark of 90% or higher is recommended in Advanced Rudiments before taking Basic Harmony.
Required Textbook and Software
Textbooks: Sarnecki: Intermediate Harmony 2nd edition (for both Online Course and In-Class Course)
Scanner: Students will need access to a scanner for scanning their assignments or practise exams.
Software: Students will need Adobe Reader (free software) to view pdf files and their marked assignments.
Optional Software for online course in addition to course tuition:
Finale Reader (free software) - to view and listen to assignments and examples.
Finale Notepad ($9.95 USD) - to notate their written assignments
If not using the above software, students need to have access to a scanner to scan to send their assignments by email.

Face to Face Instruction:
If needed, Face to Face Instruction is available through Skype, FaceTime (for Mac and iPad users), or in studio lessons, if students are in the area. The cost of for Face to Face Instruction will be billed at the hourly rate of private instructions. Face to Face Instruction can be set up as needed and as decided upon the student and instructor.
